Kid's Corner: "One Starry Night" by Lauren Thompson and Jonathan Bean

Good Morning My Brothers and Sisters in Christ! Peace be with you.

This weeks Kid's Corner pick is a holiday picture book, "One Starry Night" by Lauren Thompson and Jonathan Bean.  Thompson, begins  "One Starry Night"   with  the  relationship between parent  and child in the  natural realm, than reaches the human realm with Mary and Joseph and God 

and humanity. This tale teaches God's intangible love through earthly and tangible objects. If we can understand animals and their love for their young. Than we can see the  love of God more clearly for humanity. "One Starry Night" is great for sharing during christmas dinner or to a class during the holidays. "One Starry Night" can be used to teach children what different animal offsprings are called. The illustrations by Jonathan Bean are simple, with little  color variation which evokes a serious  and quiet tone that leaves nothing to distract the reader, making the story poignant and endearing all at once. Please check this book at your nearest library.

Kid's Corner: "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" by Kadir Nelson

 Hello My Brothers and Sisters in Christ!

 I am a Children's Librarian  for the New York Public Library  and one of my tasks is doing storytime for children. This week's Kid's Corner pick is "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" by Kadir Nelson. I use this for my Toddler Time and it is one of my favorite books to sing to. This a a great book to share and sing with your child. The lyrics are "He's Got the Whole In His Hands" a children's classic with a spiritual tone in it.  The illustrations a beautiful and rich.  The text is in the right size font which enables you to hold it up to an audience and sing at the same time. The message is important in that the Lord has everything in His Hands! I love Kadir Nelson's work, She rocks! Please check this book out at your nearest library.

When you are tired and discouraged from fruitless efforts... 

God knows how hard you have tried. 

When you've cried so long and your heart is in anguish... 

God has counted your tears. 

If you feel that your life is on hold and time has passed you by... 

God is waiting with you. 

When you're lonely and your friends are too busy even for a phone call... 

God is by your side.

When you think you've tried everything and don't know where to turn... 

God has a solution. 

When nothing makes sense and you are confused or frustrated... 

God has the answer. 

If suddenly your outlook is brighter and you find traces of hope... 

God has whispered to you. 

When things are going well and you have much to be thankful for... 

God has blessed you. 

When something joyful happens and you are filled with awe... 

God has smiled upon you. 

When you have a purpose to fulfill and a dream to follow...

God has opened your eyes and called you by name.

Remember that wherever you are or

whatever you are facing...GOD KNOWS

My Kid's Corner pick to day is  All Things Bright and Beautiful by Ashley Bryan. It is a retelling of a hymn written by Cecil F. Alexander. The hymn explains that God has a hand in everything in this world.

Kid's Corner

Hello everyone

Welcome to the first post  of kids corner. The kids corner posts will be featuring reviews and suggestions on children's books. I will dissect each book and show the spiritual components that can be found in them.

The Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss and Illustrated by Crockett Johnson, is not a new book, but an important children's classic. The protagonist, a little boy, plants  a carrot seed,  cares for it and waits for it to grow. Every day he prunes, waters and takes care of his seed and every day someone tells him that the seed will not grow. Despite the negativity, the little boy persists in taking care of his charge and finally, the seed does grows! There is so much to garner from this picture book. The seed does not rapidly grow, a magic trick that is reminiscent of Jack and The Beanstalk, but through diligence and care it eventually grew.There are times when things will not occur as rapidly as you wish it, but belief and endurance will see it through. In scripture it states, "he who endures to the end shall be saved"(Matthew 24:13 NKJV). Another piece to bite in to is that the world and the people that are close to you will be the ones to place doubts in you, but you must drown the voices out.  This is a great book to share with a child when teaching them about faith, patience and endurance. The Voice Of God

When we hear the voice of God

Speaking to our hearts,

Do we obey and follow Him

Or are we slow to start?

For when the Lord speaks to us,

We need to heed the call

And do the things He wants us to

Giving to Him our all

I know at times it can be hard

To know the Father’s will,

We need to listen to His voice

For He speaks when all is still

Many times we fret so much

And rush so much about,

We then find all our busy-ness

May cloud our Saviour out

So this is why we take some time

To be still before the Lord,

So He can speak into our lives

And show us so much more.
